Dear Friend

In this issue we discuss some of the key messages for two of our services - Lifeline 24/7 and Kidsline.

There is also an article in relation to continued discrimination in the context of mental health and Denis Bunbury shares some of his thoughts about a recent trip to the UK and a visit to a memorial to the hundreds of young soldiers executed for "desertion".

We introduce the new CEO to Gambling Helpline Dr Maria Bellringer and share some of our latest statistics in relation to the Lifeline 24/7 telephone counselling service.

We hope you enjoy reading the articles

Call numbers to Lifeline 24/7 continue to rise

Lifeline Auckland's 24/7 telephone counselling service answered 2,543 calls in September.

This represents an increase of 16% from the same month last year and is 120 calls more than August 09.

As you can see from the graph (left) call numbers for the last 6 months have been trending upwards.

In Tranquillity and Grief

By Denis Bunbury

Our week in June, cruising in a narrowboat on the Trent and Mersey Canal, was serenity itself.  It's a mode of transport that time and technology has passed by, but for me that was something to be grateful for and it was all part of the charm. ......
