Lifeline 2008 Christmas Party
By Deb Kevaney
The Lifeline Christmas Party is the one party I always try my hardest to attend. It has an amazing spread of food and drink, great atmosphere, delicious and intriguing gifts and this year particularly was superbly decorated in full - on Christmassy splendour. |

Most of the volunteers, friends, committee members and organisers marked the 2008 version with a special hat designed to mystify, recall a bygone era, be simply outrageous, totally glamorous – or simply deflect the financial doom and gloom which has hung over the world these past months. There was a certain determination not to let anything get Auckland Lifeline down. A ‘sung’ prize giving was a unique and appropriate touch for this splendid occasion!

You can get a number of parties that would be able to compete with the above. What they could not compete with is the wonderful eclectic mix of people, ranging across countless decades of birthdays, exotic backgrounds and amazingly different experience they all bring to serving Lifeline, selflessly, each year.
The Christmas Party is the only time we all get together. And that is almost certainly the source of that electric atmosphere and vibe which hits you as you step off the ramp and into the celebration of service, reunion and meetings. Even after a number of years, I’m still meeting people who have been with Lifeline forever, along with recent newcomers and returnees, who have gone travelling or been away for a while.
It’s a privilege to attend. And I know everyone feels that. See you next year.
