Commitment to Lifeline
| |
Before proceeding with an application please make sure you understand the commitment that we need volunteers to make to Lifeline.
The training course is intensive and costly for Lifeline to run and it usually takes volunteers around 12 months to feel that they have embedded the skills they have learned and gained confidence in their abilities.
For maintenance of developing skills and our service, we ask volunteers to strive for a commitment to 3 x 3 hour counselling shifts per month together with a monthly supervision meeting.

Interview and Training
| |
If selected for interview, candidates need to attend an interview evening where they will participate in a mixture of group and individual interviews and activities. Interviews are run by existing Lifeline volunteers who have been trained for that position - so you will have an opportunity to ask questions directly to existing volunteers.
Those who proceed after interview will then become trainee counsellors and must successfully complete a 12 week training course before becoming an active volunteer.
Training commences with two full days of seminars and group activities over a weekend. Trainee volunteers then undertake training once a week, either on a Friday night or a Saturday daytime for 12 weeks.
In addition attendance at three Saturday morning seminars is requested and additional coaching sessions may also be required for some volunteers.

| Wherever possible we try to offer volunteers opportunities to add to their range of skills and abilities which will be of value to them not only within Lifeline but in all other areas of their life. | |
