 Focus On Kidsline

More than 300 events have been organised across New Zealand to celebrate the 9th National Children’s Day on Sunday 1st March. The theme for this year is ‘listening and talking’.

As part of the National Children’s Day celebrations, Kidsline will be fundraising across Auckland this weekend.  Kidsline  Buddies will be raising funds for the service in Broadway  Newmarket, Botany Town Centre and Sylvia Park . The team is aiming to raise $5000 this weekend through support from the public.  It’s not an easy job! However the Buddies and Kidsline Resource team are now experienced bucket rattlers- having braved the winter rain to raise $5000 for Kidsline last year.

Fundraising at these sites also raises awareness of Kidsline’s free counselling service for children and the Kidsline message ‘it helps to talk.’  Often children as young as 7 call the service as they are unable to express problems such as bullying , loneliness or family break-ups with the adults around them.  The Kidsline Buddies are trained to really listen to callers and provide support and encouragement, opposed to simply offering advice.  National Children’ s Day aims to bring this message home to adults as well by encouraging us to really listen to children and talk to them about what’s going on in their lives.
