Lifeline Auckland Board Member Profiles, 2010  

David Bogan (Chair) – for more than 30 years David has been involved with commercial litigation while acting on behalf of various organisations.  During his career he has also held several senior positions in major companies.  Before becoming a full time mediator he worked for National Australia Bank New Zealand as Chief Manager Legal and Recoveries and joined Lifeline initially as a volunteer telephone counsellor.

In addition to his extensive and multi-disciplined practical experience, he has successfully completed and taught at mediation and other courses in NZ, Sydney the UK and the USA and is also accredited under the NSW Farm Debt Mediation Act and the NSW Health Care Complaints Commission.

Independent board member. Director of LL International and Chair of Lifeline Pasifika and the Gambling Helpline.

Haddo D’Audney (Deputy Chair)
- trained as an educational psychologist and then spent some seventeen years in radio and television in New Zealand and Australia.

He currently works as an organisational psychologist specialising in leadership and emotional intelligence.   His areas of specialty include; interpersonal communication, intra organisational communication, emotional intelligence (at work), the people skills of leadership, introduction to leadership, kaizen – Small Steps and Often and psychometric testing.

Dr Bruce Arroll - is currently the Professor and Head of Department of General Practice and Primary Health Care at the University of Auckland. He also undertakes clinical work at Greenstone Family Clinic in Manurewa where he has worked since 1991. The clinic is a teaching and research clinic and trains medical students, nursing students and GP registrars. 

He is the current Chair of ASH (Action on Smoking and Health) and also chair of the National Depression Initiative Reference group for the Ministry of Health.

Bruce is interested in screening for lifestyle and mental health issues in primary care and is increasingly interested in new treatments for conditions such as depression and anxiety. He recently attended the Positive Psychology Conference in Philadelphia where a range of new treatments for depression and distress were showcased.

Doug Dempster - is married to Sally with three children And has taught at Mt Albert Grammar School, Kuranui, Te Puke High School and Tikipunga High School.  Doug moved to Mairangi Bay in 1975 to become Head of Department for Mathematics at Rangitoto College and in 1987 became a Deputy Principal and was part of the growth of Rangitoto as it doubled in size to 3000.

He moved to Northcote in 2001 and retired in 2002 undertaking contract work at Mt Albert Grammar School in 2003.  Doug played senior hockey in Auckland for three years and then in Wairarapa, Bay of Plenty and Whangarei and was chair of the Auckland Secondary Schools’ Hockey and NZ SS Hockey teams. He is now Patron of ABC Hockey Club.   He is a previous member of the Auckland Anglican Diocesan Council, the Anglican Trusts Board and the Northern Regional Ecumenical Chaplaincy Board.

Ken Eades – is a senior marine insurance broker with New Zealand’s largest insurer. He has extensive involvement and experience in social services’ governance and management – particularly with youth through his long standing involvement with the Catholic Diocese of Auckland.

Ken has travelled extensively throughout the world and has been an active board member for nine years.

Bruce Mackie - is the Director of the Brain Training Institute Ltd. This is an agency providing eeg biofeedback (neurofeedback) for a wide range of disorders and high performance individuals.

Previously he was the director of Lifeline Auckland.  Together with terms with Lifeline in Christchurch and Melbourne Bruce has served within Lifeline for 30 years.  During his time in Melbourne Bruce undertook leadership training with UCLA in the Human Potential Movement,   in Family Therapy with the American Institute of Family Relations and later in N.Z. in business studies at Massey.

Dorothy McCarrison
- Has been involved with Lifeline Auckland since 1980 as trainer and supervisor Dorothy is still a supervisor for Face to Face Counsellors and also has a small counselling practice from home.

Dorothy has been a Facilitator at the St Luke’s RJ Provider group since 2004 and is currently a member of the Youth Horizons Trust Board, the Project Restore Committee and AUT RJ Advisory Board. A Former Education Review Officer, Dorothy has worked in all aspects of education and is an elder of parish Council at St Luke’s Presbyterian Church Remuera in Newmarket.

James Smith
- is a very experienced secondary School Teacher in science and mathematics and a lay pastor within his Church. James was appointed by the Congregational Union of NZ – Auckland District as their representative four years ago.  

James brings a worldly view on a wide range of social and governance interest topics and is a keen conservationist and mathematician.

Noeline Westley
- was raised and educated in Auckland and has two adult daughters and three granddaughters.  Noeline’s business background has been in management and she assisted her late husband Bryan in their typesetting business for 20 years before branching out on her own.

Noeline spent the next few years managing a large medical practice and in 1992 she was offered the opportunity to peruse a career in real estate. Noeline spent the next 16 years in sales where she consistently achieved results at the top level.  In 2008 she was offered a management position which entails supporting a high performing sales team.  In her leisure time Noeline enjoys reading, singing in the church choir or just spending time with her granddaughters.
